Carleton Martello Tower Rehabilitation
A military structure in Saint-John, New Brunswick, the Carleton Martello Tower is a unique combination of an 1812 era fortification and WW2 era Command Post. The heavily deteriorated and unstable masonry requires extensive repair, and the project mandate includes the replacement of the massive concrete addition with a lightweight replica. Unfinished Portland cement panels fastened to a steel frame replaces the original Command Post, preserving the general character of the place while being clearly a modern intervention.
